BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Grade 3 Allied Health Assistant role in a busy and progressive community health setting.
Situated at Bell Street Coburg close to public transport and lots of eateries.

YOUR NEW ROLE:

The Allied Health Assistant, provides clinical and administrative support to Allied Health Professionals to facilitate the delivery of effective, client-centred services.
Working under the delegation and supervision of qualified clinicians, the role assists in the implementation of individual and group treatment plans and contributes to the coordination and delivery of care within a multidisciplinary team. The Allied Health Assistant undertakes a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks to support client care and the efficient operation of allied health services.
Working within a community and multidisciplinary environment, the role aims to maximise clients’ functional independence, mobility and participation in daily life. Services may be delivered in a range of settings including client homes, community locations and clinical environments. Services may be delivered via a range of modes to meet client needs including 1:1, group and telehealth.
As the Grade 3 AHA, this position will also be responsible for providing leadership to the AHA team with the support of the team leader. Duties may include co-ordinating meetings and task delegation.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Assist clinicians to plan, coordinate and implement healthcare activities as required, including for clients with more complex or variable needs

• Safely and effectively carry out own role and responsibilities relating to the implementation of a care / management plan/intervention, demonstrating a high level of independence within delegation parameters

• Deliver individual and group-based programs where directed, adapting activities within scope to meet client needs and goals

• Recognise and promptly report changes in the health and functional status of the client to the supervising practitioner, including identifying potential risks and escalating appropriately

• Perform healthcare activities safely and effectively, applying accepted risk assessment and risk management techniques, and supporting others to do the same where appropriate

• Engage team members and other relevant healthcare professionals in the development and implementation of strategies that meet specific client care needs, including coordinating aspects of care as delegated

• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate client care, and proactively contribute to team discussions regarding client progress and service delivery

• Recognise areas for improvement, and suggest new ways of working to improve team functioning and effectiveness, and support implementation of agreed improvements

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and client records, ensuring a high standard of detail and compliance

• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, funding guidelines, service standards and contractual obligations

• Clarify work priorities and job expectations with a manager/supervisor as required, while independently managing competing priorities where appropriate

• Prepare and maintain clinical environments, equipment and resources, and monitor stock and resource requirements proactively

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
• Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistant (or equivalent)
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
• Proficient organisational, time-management and administrative skills (including computer and word processing)
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations which may include people with disability, chronic illness and, children and older adults
• Cultural awareness and ability to work with diverse communities
